Daredevil Denver

Hello world!

Things I've been thinking about lately...

keeping Denver alive as he runs through the house, tumbling all over everything, trying to dive into toilets, sneaking out the doggie door, banging his head on every corner he can find, putting his hands in Fable's mouth and taking chomps out of toilet paper rolls

Things I've NOT been thinking about lately...

this blog

Can you forgive me? I'll try to post more videos and pictures in the coming months. :)

In the meantime, please check out our high-flying son!!*

*no babies or animals were harmed in the making of this photo :)

Blog Redesign

So... you may be noticing that things look different around here...

A talented friend of mine from TCU redesigned our blog for us!

I am absolutely loving it.

If you like it too, you could check out more of her work at www.diamonddolldesign.com or you can see her sweet family blog: My Beatles Babies.

So what do you think? Do you like it? :)

Eleven Months Old and Walking like a Pro...

...well... sort of.

Denver can definitely "walk." He walks all around the house. Everywhere we go he wants me to put him down so he can walk and explore. He just falls over. All. the. time.

But he is one determined little man. No more crawling for him! Even if it means injuries. He currently has a black eye, two forehead bruises, and two cuts on his head from walking and falling. And it's not like our house is particularly dangerous with sharp edges everywhere. The boy will fall and cut his head on his TOYS. But it's cute and we love it.

We'll try to post a video of our little walker soon.

In the mean time, here are a few 11 month pictures (bruises and all...)

Breastmilk Counts

Did you know that it's World Breastfeeding Week? That's right. A week dedicated to education, encouragement, and awareness for breastfeeding. I guess that makes it pretty good timing to tell y'all what we did on Wednesday of this week.

Austin, Denver, and I traveled down to Austin, TX so that I could give an interview for Breastmilk Counts, a website devoted to educating women about nursing their children.

It was such a neat experience. I actually got paid to do it (yay!), they also gave us per diem for gas, food, etc., (double yay!), and put our family in a really nice hotel right on the river in the middle of Austin (triple yay!).

I spoke to them about my experiences breastfeeding my son. I told them about the trials and joys that breastfeeding brings. I shared that the first month was very challenging, but it was absolutely worth it. And now, eleven months later, I am so glad that I persevered. Nursing Denver is some of the sweetest time that I have with him, and I'm so grateful that God created my body to nourish my son in that way.

My husband was gracious to take some pictures during the filming. Here are some of my favorites...

getting my makeup professionally done. legit.

this is the viewing monitor while we were filming.. of course Denver stole the show :)

After the shoot, Denver was a great little helper. He carried my scarf and water for me! :)

The ultimate goal in all of this was to encourage and educate young women to breastfeed their babies. I pray that my story will help to do that. When they put my vignette online, I will let everyone know.

Beating the Heat

Today is Day 25.

That's 25 straight days of temperatures above 100 degrees in Fort Worth, Texas.

We are starting to get creative when it comes to staying cool.

Any better ideas?

Call me Jillian Michaels

I've had a number of people compliment me recently on my arms.

"Have you been lifting weights? Your arms look great!" people ask.

"Thank you!" I say. But no, no lifting weights for me. Just taking care of my child all day.

However, if you don't have a baby, I've put together an arm-toning workout for you:

1. Find an object (weighing around 23 pounds). The chunkier and cuter the better. Something that looks like this will do...

2. Pick that object up first thing in the morning. Then put it on the ground. Then pick it back up again. Do this until you go to bed at night... approximately 300-700 times each day.

3. About 30 seconds after you begin to do ANYTHING (ex: cook dinner, sort laundry, shampoo your hair, grocery shop), pick that object up, and then complete the task one handed! Feel free to switch arms so that both arms get an equal workout.

Just follow these easy steps, and you too can have toned arms!

A Weekend at the Lake

Every year for the 4th of July, my family gets together at Tablerock Lake near Branson, Missouri. This was Denver's inaugural visit (not counting his trip last year in-utero).

Lots of fun had by all.

with my cousin Megan

a picture is worth a thousand words... and i can't come up with any words for this one. it speaks for itself

current favorite fruit... peaches

I think Denver ate his body weight in peas during this trip

his new favorite sport... "cooler-diving," where he digs in coolers for ice until his hands and face are freezing cold... then he goes back for more.
